ksmith: (sadness)

A couple of months ago, I spotted a pair of Canadas wandering along the edge of the expressway I usually take on the way to work. It's a short stretch of expressway, but people do speed up once they turn onto it.

A couple of weeks ago, I was on the way to work when I spotted a spray of feathers on the road. It was one of the Canadas, killed by a car.

Now, most every day, I see the other Canada feeding or sitting by the side of the road. I know they supposedly mate for life, but it will find another goose to keep company with, won't it? Eventually?

It saddens me every time I see that poor thing.

Yes, it will find another mate. Unless it also ends up as roadkill first . . .

I wonder about that. Articles I read stated that the bird left behind does mourn, and one thing that happens is that they don't pay attention to their surroundings. The goose is hanging around the general area where its partner was killed. I hope the drivers look out for it.

It's a pity that it's in such a dangerous place, but according to Konrad Lorenz (King Soloman's Ring) it should eventually mate again, if it survives.

(Sorry, I should have explained that I'm here via clicking the wrong link and seeing another Blogger's friends-list. I'm not a troll or a bot.)
