Tax refund turned up in the bank account today. The plan is to save the bulk of it, but I did treat myself to a few things--some Penzey's spices, and some flour and mixes from King Arthur.

Then I went to eBay and poked around. I have been wanting a KitchenAid stand mixer for a while. I have a handheld model, but cookie dough seems to be about its limit, power-wise, and I would love to be able to mix things hands-free. Priced the Artisan model at a few places, then went to eBay and found one in the color I wanted being offered at almost 40% off retail. I checked out the seller, then placed my bid. Expected to be sniped, but wasn't. I am now the owner of a Green Apple KitchenAid stand mixer. Yes, it's a trendy color, but I have a few other assorted kitchen things in that shade, and besides, I like it. Didn't want black or white. Red seems the most popular color, but not for me. Might have gone for cream, but didn't have to. Green Apple. A little jot of brightness in a dull and weary world. Or something.

Another warm day. A/C is on. Left the seed tray outside again. Brought it in for the night, though, because the winds will pick up, temps will drop some, and rain is expected. Hoping it's nothing torrential because I have errands to run tomorrow. Grocery shopping to do. It will be a writing weekend, and I will need cookies to tide me over. Raisin Pecan Oatmeal cookies, to be exact. I will kid myself that they're healthy because of the oatmeal.

Gaby seems fine, ::knock wood:: She's currently lying next to be on the couch. On her back, back legs sprawled, front legs tucked up against her chest. Her 'rub my tummy' pose. Very cute.

No walking this week to speak of as my right knee still hurts as a result of last Friday's sprints. I tried again tonight but gave up after 15 minutes and iced the damned thing down. I'll ice it this weekend. Pop ibuprofen. Hopefully by Monday it will ease up. Blasted thing.

Finally, because I'm just in a time-wasting mood...we had a full moon earlier in the week. I missed the 100% full view, but did catch sight of it the day after, nearly full, rising behind the oak on the edge of my yard. It was a stunning ghostly scene, which I tried to capture with my cheap little Coolpix without much luck. But I loaded the shots into iPhoto anyway and mucked around with the effects. Won't be winning Pulitzers for my photography anytime soon, but I like the ghostly gnarl of the oak. The odd circles caused by the flash.

And finally, a sleeping dog. Lying.

Awww. Is that Gaby in the last one? What a fluffy sweetie! But hey, we all know, she's only resting her eyes. You need her, she'll be there - snap! - like that! We all know that.

Yup, that's the Gabster. And she is capable of going from 0-60 in seconds flat. She can be sacked out on the couch, and if I rattle keys and look down, there she is waiting to dash outside.
