The week so far
Mar. 25th, 2010 08:48 pmFriday tomorrow. Yea.
Tuesday evening, I came home as usual. Let the pups outside as usual. As they did what they do so well--ran, barked, peed--I reconnoitered the rooms to drag the rugs back into place and see if Gaby made use of her corner. Didn't find any of that sort of thing. What I did find was a single drop of blood on the floor near the front window. OK, I thought, a leftover from Gaby's ice accident, when she ran through the rooms spattering everywhere. Went to scrape it off the floor. It smeared. Fresh blood. Walked through the living room, then back into the dining room. Found a few more drops.
Nothing says "Welcome home" like fresh blood on the floor, I tell ya.
Checked Gaby for wounds. Couldn't find anything. Checked King, and found that his surgical incision, which had looked so lovely on Monday when he got his stitches out, has separated. Just a little, but still. Edges of skin and such.
I called the vet's office, and spoke to one of the techs. At this point, they would not re-stitch, but use glue. Was it bleeding a lot? No. Well, we would wait and see. This wasn't an unusual thing. The incision is in a really bad place in that the area experiences a lot of stress every time King lies down, gets up, or walks, so a little separation might be expected. I would put a sock on King's leg. Keep an eye on it.
Well, so far, so good. The incision is healing. It doesn't seem to bother King at all. There will probably be more of a scar than if it had held together, but that's not a big deal. King was on antibiotics for a week, so there should hopefully be no infection.
In other news, the Gabster went to the groomer's today. The hair between her pads had grown a little long. There were a couple of mats. She came home all trimmed up and fluffed out, with a little neckerchief. The silkiness of her coat is really obvious now.
What else. I'll be starting seeds this weekend. Right now I'm baking cookies. The same Ultimate Ginger Cookies that I made last week...except that I will be using fresh ginger instead of crystallized because that's what I have. (UPDATE: I also added a few twists of freshly ground pepper. I'll let them sit overnight--they taste fine when warm, but I have found that anything with spices, ginger, or molasses tastes better if it sits a while. Tomorrow, these cookies will taste better. In 3-4 days, even better.}
That's it.
