Always a good thing, despite the fact that it's usually the day that something goes "blooey" at the day job, especially in the afternoon. Well, I thought I had a "blooey" today, but 1) I caught it in time, 2) it wasn't the problem I thought it was. A minor 'blooey'. Considering what I thought might blow up today, I'll take it.
The more I practice guitar, the more I realize that despite the BS in Chemistry that involved upper level maths and the years of balancing checkbooks and such, I can't count. I'm learning Greensleeves/What Child Is This?, and 6/8 time is giving me fits. "Six beats per measure" I tell myself. Double waltz time, which may not be strictly correct, but works for me.
Thing is, I am supposed to be adding arpeggios and chord strums along with notes, and I'm losing my way. I finally settled for a waltz-time strum without a pick, which sounds softer than the note-picking. I like it, which of course doesn't mean it makes any sort of musical sense.
Had a nice moment last night, despite the fact that it occurred at about 2am. Mickey decided some months ago that he was entitled to awaken me in the middle of the night to let him outside. So, at anytime between midnight and two am, I'll hear collar tags shake and toenails on the wood floor, followed soon after by a schnuffling sound as Mickey sniffs and licks my face. Oddly enough, I've started awakening around this time anyway. Looks like one of us is trainable.
ANYway, I got up to let the Mickelator outside, then stood by the backdoor and thought the sort of free-associating thoughts one usually thinks at dark a.m., when it hit me that there was no way that Dathim would do the thing I had him doing in Chapter 3. It's the sort of drop-in thought that usually serves me well, and it's nice that I'm starting to have them again.
