I've had some wonderful desserts over the years. Flourless chocolates cakes. Apple dumplings. Creamy bread puddings--don't roll your eyes at me I love bread pudding--and fruit cobblers.

But my favorite way to end a meal is with a couple of pieces of good chocolate, 3 or 4 plain cookies (butter, vanilla wafers, shortbread), and the last of the wine or a fresh cup of coffee.

The chocolate and little cookies or petit-fours with coffee is fairly standard in very expensive restaurants in NYC. I suspect it is a European thing. I love it, too.
