When last we left our hero, she was bemoaning her lack of NaNoWriMo sticktoitiveness. However, she did manage a few words here and there over the last few days, and while some of them may have been technically written in the month of December, she won't tell if you don't.

So...

Start: 11,874
Wind-up: Let's say 24,659, for a grand total of 12.785 words.

A shade over 25% of goal. Oh well. Truth be told, given the last year it's a big deal for me to have written something almost every day. And bits of business and dialogue are starting to occur to me as I brush my teeth or drive, which hasn't happened in a while.

The brain works it out in its own good time, which is...irritating, but unavoidable.

50K is too low for a novel, and most NaNoWriMo folks know that. But the exercise does serve as a jumpstart, a sustained effort carried out over a short enough period of time. You can see the light at the end of the tunnel, which I think is important. Sustaining the pace over a longer stretch or with a more novel-ish wordcount would drive some folks into the ground--I know it would me.

Once again, I envy the people who can write quickly. It's not everything, but there's something to be said for it.
