I have a side table but still ...

I shouldn't say "just" dusty. It has other junk on it, not the books, which also aren't "stacked" on the floor, but in a slovenly pile. On the bedside table are a lamp (legit) and phone (legit) and pens, pencils, hair pins, hair elastics, a round sandstone coaster for the glass that often inhabits it, the TV remotes (we need two since digital came in), a few stray cough drops (wrapped), the wrappings of long-gone cough drops, some 3x5 cards covered with notes taken on the phone, some envelopes ditto, a container of TUMS. That's why it can't be dusted, you see.

Mine has other stuff on it, too. Even some of the book are dusty...

And I have a chair stacked with books. The top of the bookcase--yes, I even have a bookcase in there but it's too small--and the top of the armoire also are at least partially booked.

It's ridiculous.

Actually, my books are stacked in bed, usually stuffed under the pillows. When my head can no longer reach my pillow, I prune the collection.

I have a couple of books on the bed--they're the ones I'm reading. Then there's the notebook pad or journal. Sometimes there's a laptop.

As most of the articles/books I've read about insomnia say something to the effect of "don't do anything in bed but sleep", I haven't read in bed for years. Books piled randomly all over the rest of my apartment, yes, but not around the bed.

I've read that. But even when I do have trouble sleeping, I can't manage it.

Books piled mostly on the floor leaning towards the bookcases. Everything is dust free but cluttered with stacked books and tchotchke (mostly mineral samples). When I start tripping on the books then I box up a few.

Where's the checkbox for "Not dusty, because the cleaning service was just here." And the cleaning service is a necessity, since left on my own I would dust every decade or so.

For the record, it used to be stacked with boosk, but back/neck issues make it too uncomfortable to read in bed, so books are stacked everywhere else but not on night table.

I should have had a box for "Other." Or something.

I've considered a cleaning service, but I'm funny about strangers in my house, cleaning my dirt. A friend told me that she felt the same way until the day she came home to a clean house. Then she adjusted.

A friend and I both have the same cleaning service, and the same woman is assigned to both our houses. He only lets her clean when he's home, if he can't work from home that day he'll cancel the appointment. I'm the complete opposite-- I don't want to look over her shoulder, I just want to come home to a clean house.

Of course the puppies would make it a bit more problematic, since you'd probably need to be home, but honestly, in a money crunch, I'd cut a lot of other things out before I gave up this.

I don't have an end table. What I do have is FOUR bookcases filled and overflowing with books.

I don't read in bed. I did as a teenager (nearly burned up the shade of a bedside lamp reading under the covers) and young adult, but I find that I have a Pavlovian reaction to being in bed anymore. I don't last a chapter, before I'm asleep with the book open on my chest and my glasses askew on my face.

I read in the floor, so I keep my books conveniently stacked there. :-)

Mine is distressingly clean at the moment, but I give it a week after the move before it is overflowing with books and dust again.

Well...the bookcase next to my bed has a shelf near bed height that has books and lamps and alarm clocks. The rest of the bookcase is filled with books facing the room.

I read in bed, I fall asleep reading in bed. Yup!

I have a table with a shelf underneath. The books are kept there.
