...rain. Some sleet, but mostly rain. Temps stayed in the mid-30s overnight, so everything stayed liquid and the morning drive proved a non-issue.

Now the winds are picking up. Temps are going to drop, with possible single digits tonight and wind chills well below zero. Hope I get home before the roads get icy.

Holiday lunch at the day job today. Friday is our department potluck--I'm making Sweet and Savory Bread Pudding, but with some changes. No brandy--white wine and a tbsp or 2 of rum. Fewer eggs, and half and half instead of cream. And I couldn't find any challah, so I went with buttercrust white bread. So it won't be as rich and heavy, but that may not be such a bad thing.

Mouse Watch '09 continues. Nothing in the traps today.

Gaby still seems OK. Fingers remain crossed.

We only got about 6 inches of snow mixed with rain.

I am NOT looking forward to the bitter cold.

It's the sort of cold that reminds me that I need to start budgeting for new windows.

Six degrees here in Oregon

It got down to 6F here last night. I think it's a record. Your bread pudding sounds tasty. Mouse Watch '09 is inspirational and so we will watch Pinky and The Brain tonight. Did I mention it was 6 frakking F here last night?

Was there a wind chill? 6F can actually feel OK, if it's mid-January and you've acclimated and you don't have a 50 mph wind blowing in your face and a resulting wind chill of eleventy-seven bazillion below zero.

I hope you don't have to go out in it tomorrow. It's been nasty cold here. Tomorrow, if we're lucky, we'll get up to freezing, which will feel balmy by comparison.

Rain and muddy dog feet? Not fun.

Happy baking!

A

Ground's frozen now. No more muddy feet. Now it's snowy feet.
