Awoke to rain and temps 15 degrees (F) below normal. Looks like the gloom will hang around until Sunday.

In better news, Gaby continues to do well. Fingers still crossed that this continues. I'm now searching for a venison-sweet potato dry food. Vet thinks Royal Canin offers one, but the only one we can find so far has white potato, not sweet. White may be OK, but we would prefer sweet. Natural Balance has one--I assume they've dealt with the melamine contamination crisis of a few years ago. Eukanuba has one, too. Hard to find a venison food that doesn't contain chicken fat. Timberwolf offered some interesting choices, but. Chicken fat. No more beef or poultry for the Gabatron.

Hawks won, beating their old goalie in the process. Huet was benched in favor of Niemi. Good. I have no faith in Huet. I think it was a mistake to keep him and let Khabibulin go...even though they beat Khabi last night. He still kept Edmonton in the game.

Time to wash my hair, I guess. Oh well. Hello. day...

Glad to hear that Gaby is improving, and good luck on the search for the right dog food.

Not venison, but California Natural has a Herring and Sweet Potato food that is very good.

Does it smell fishy? Granted, Gaby was feeling nauseated at the time, but when I held a kernel of the Hill's salmon & potato up to her nose, she went all squinchy face and backed away from me. OK. it was Hill's, but it was the prescription diet, which I understand is better than the science diet line.

I think it does smell a bit fishy when you open a bag. I fed it to Flint, my JRT, for a while when I was trying to see if it would help his skin allergies. Another friend finds that it's what her dog does best with it with her sensitive stomach.

Did you like "Eight is Enough?" Believe it or not, Dick Van Patten has just the right dog food for you, and the full ingredient list is available on the web site. http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dogformulas/VenDog.html.
No beef or poultry anything that I can see. It's also completely grain free, so there should be no chance of melamime. (And, no, I don't work for the company. One of the wonderful dogs I walk did very well on Dick Van Patten food, and we suspect she has a chicken allergy.)

Actually, Natural Balance did find melamine contamination in rice protein concentrate that they used, but this was during the big pet food crisis two years ago. I am assuming that they have addressed their supplier issue by this point, and that nothing else like this is being discussed on any of the pet blogs. I am interested in this food because the Limited Ingredient version of their venison-sweet potato is actually what I would like to try with Gaby. It contains flaxseed, which isn't technically a grain, but, kinda paranoid. I just wondered if any of the dogfolk here had heard anything...

Update: Natural balance has a page on their site discussing the lab tests they perform ont heir food. They are testing for melamine and cyanuric acid now, among other things.
