I came home to find several areas of upchuck on the dining room rug. I wasn't 100% sure that it was Gaby, but it looked like it was hers, and she has shown signs of being the sort of dog who sometimes gets an upset tum for no discernible reason.

I cleaned it up and was in the middle of changing clothes when she tossed up again. Not very much, and this time there was a little blood in the mix. In all other ways she seems fine--alert, good spirits. Not sick, iow. Phoned the vet, who advised a bland dinner of chicken and rice. If she upchucks again, it's to the e-vet with her.

Vet also advised famotidine, so I gave Gaby a 20mg tablet in a pea-sized bit of wet dog food. So far, fingers crossed, that has stayed down. I then went out to get chicken. Am cooking that now. Please let that stay down.

UPDATE: fingers still crossed. Her light dinner was 4 hours ago, and nothing untoward in the house. Even if she lost it outside as a result of all the excitement over the Neighbors! Splitting! Logs!, I can't help but think that she would have tossed up in the house as well.

I'm wondering if it's a delayed reaction to her homecoming and all the stress that entailed?

Another day of famotidine, I think. And more chicken and rice.

Keeping fingers crossed for her! I don't know if it helps, or if you already know, but sometimes if they're vomiting a lot they can pop a small blood vessel in the esophagus. So the blood might not be indicative of anything but that she's vomiting a lot.

Thanks--that's very good to know. She did vomit more than usual--4 or 5 times, instead of her usual once or twice.

She ate 1/2 cup cooked rice and some diced white meat chicken, and licked the bowl. She seems normal in every way except for the tummy upset--she stuck by me in the kitchen, and was very interested in what I was preparing. No nausea, iow. And she kept the famotidine down, which is a good sign. I did find a few blades of grass in the last bit she upchucked, but whether that caused the problem or was something she ate to alleviate it, who knows?

She's sleeping now.

It sounds like one of those Dog Things. I hate when they get those Dog Things and mysteriously vomit all over the place for a while. Hopefully chicken, rice, and famotidine will set her right!

If it were one of my dogs, I wouldn't feed her at all tonight--not sure what is to be gained by feeding her anything--other than putting food on an already upset stomach. Then tomorrow, I'd offer her the chicken and rice.

Also, I'd offer her ice cubes to lick instead of a lot of water.

So far, she napped. She did burp, and brought up a little rice in the process. You're right, I probably shouldn't have fed her. I am going to hold any further food until later tomorrow.

Now she's barking at the neighbors, who are chopping wood.

I usually feed a little rice with or without chicken just to prevent further vomiting from having an empty stomach, which Tink is prone to.

Welp, right after I finished posting that things seemed to have improved, Gaby threw up again. I'll be calling the vet in a few minutes to get an appointment. I am a little concerned about dehydration. She does lick ice cubes, but I'm not sure that's enough fluids.

Fingers crossed. I hope she feels better soon, because that doesn't sound comfortable at all.

That's the thing--she doesn't seem uncomfortable. At all. Something just hit her wrong.

Dinner was almost 4 hours ago, and unless she whoopsed it up while she was barking at the neighbors, she's kept it down.

I, otoh, feel out of sorts, and got nothing worthwhile accomplished.

Here's hoping that you both feel better this morning. At least there's a weekend coming up.

I hope it improves. Gaby was sick later in the evening, so it will be the vet's sometime today. Waiting for a callback from the office. Of course, it's raining and gloomy.

A week ago at this time, I was in St Louis. At the risk of sounding self-pitying, I wish I was there now.

Saw this on a friend's FL.

Next time you're at the vet's ask him to show you how they check for dehydration in dogs - basically you pull up some skin over the ribcage - in a hydrated dog in goes right back into place, in a dehydrated dog it kind of stays pulled up.

Thanks. Gaby's coat is so thick that I wouldn't have trusted myself anyway, but it's something I should learn to check.
