Back from the vet's.

Good news: King has lost 8 pounds since March. He's down to 110, which is the lightest he's been in years. He does look better. He's lost most of his neck wattle and chest fat, and when he trots, his skin doesn't jiggle. He had a very pronounced waist now, too. All for the good, given his age and his hips.

Not-so-good news: Gaby needed a couple of staples to close the wound in her side--there was a little too much skin gone, and the ends weren't closing. She is now sporting a mock turtleneck to keep the bandage in place. It was a choice between that and a satellite dish, and given her activity level we thought the sleeve would work better. I take her back in on Tuesday for follow-up.

Waiting game: King had a blood draw to check whether his Lyme disease is under control. He was diagnosed in March, and was put on doxycycline for a month. Here's hoping that beat it down and kept it down. No more Lyme vaccines for him, since that can lead to kidney issues with some dogs.

King also had his nails trimmed. King hates having his nails trimmed, and expressed his displeasure in a stinky doggy way. Eau d'anal glands permeated the examining room. I was able to clean him somewhat, but then I put him in the car while they worked on Gaby, and the remaining aroma scented the cabin. As soon as I got home, I trashed the old seat covers, vacuumed, and deodorized.

Pups have been fed, and are dozing. I still need to go grocery shopping. Buy seat covers.
