Listening to the weather forecast. This summer is shaping up to be the cloudiest in the 115-year span since they started keeping records. Only 53% of usual/possible sunshine.
That explains why the basil and other herbs crapped out, I guess.

Meanwhile, Vancouver is setting heat records.

Our August is being very weird. The high yesterday was only 93. I sat outside (in the shade) at 4 p.m. and read a book comfortably. I'm glad for it, since we were without A/C for a couple of days.

The fall garden is in the ground and showing signs of life.

Think of it this way: any failures in your garden are not your fault! You get to try again next year and know that you are still a good gardener.

Shouldn't it be the other way around?

We'll be lucky to hit 70 this weekend.

I'm disappointed in the herbs. I had hopes for great bushy bunches of cilantro and curly parsley. And basil.

The thyme did OK, much to my surprise. And I have more sage than I know what to do with.

I'm going to try for some fall lettuces. The seeds arrived a couple of days ago, and the mesclun mix is supposed to grow within 25 days. It prefers cool as well, so maybe this will work out.

It's 78 when I get up in the morning.

I think we were too hot and dry this year, asour tomato crop this year was the pits. Purple hull peas and snap peas did well. As did turnips, potatoes and beets. Carrots were lackluster and we've had very few bell peppers. Blueberries were poor as were grapes.

We should have a great crop of blood oranges in Feb/Mar. We've got all sorts of fruit on one of the trees.

You'd definitely think we'd have the rain.
