ksmithToday was Gaby's annual check-up. She weighs 35.7 pounds, which is just about perfect for her. Ex-vet, who brought us together, thought she should weigh about 35 lbs. Ex-vet also guessed that Gaby, despite all appearances to the contrary, was part Husky. I miss ex-vet. The current vets are fine, but. I miss ex-vet.
When I brought Gaby home last August, she weighed 26 pounds. When you think that a dog as small as she is has gained almost ten pounds and still looks thin/rangy...but she was skin and bones before. If you scratched under her chin, you could feel her windpipe, her jawbone, everything.
Unfortunately, Gaby turned out to have an infection in her left ear, which I should have spotted and missed completely. She didn't show any signs, but I still should have checked. I check King's ears all the time because he has a history in that regard.
So, ear drops 2x a day for the next ten days. It's a yeast infection, so we need to watch out for any recurrences. It could have been caused by moisture getting in her ear, but it could also indicate a food allergy of some sort. I am really hoping it is simply a case of water trapped in floppy ear.
Oh, and tartar on the back teeth. So, toothbrushing. Given that Gaby sniffed the toothpaste, then walked away from me and dodged me any time I got close, this should prove interesting. I should have gone with the poultry flavor, I guess. This vanilla stuff is not a hit with Herself. King liked it, though, so maybe it's not a total wash. I would just need to get a tube of the poultry stuff for Gaby.
Blood was also drawn. Fingers so crossed that all is well.
Grocery shopping done. A haircut for me.
Tried the first of the Black Crims the other day, and confess to disappointment. It tasted rather flat. I had read somewhere that it's hard to tell when this variety is ripe because it does remain partly green, so it's possible that I picked it before it had ripened. I will leave the others on the vine longer, and see what happens. The Roma aren't impressing me either--they seem a little mealy. The Sweet 100s taste the best so far. It figures, since I bought then as an afterthought.
