Happy Monday!
Aug. 10th, 2009 08:48 amMy home internet went south last night. Not sure what happened. The "Link" light on the cable modem is still on, so that implies that the issue isn't with Comcast. But there was bad weather in the area, so I will call to make sure nothing happened.
I think it might be my router. It's an Airport Extreme Base Station, and while I can get the signal that Airport is on, I can't get it to connect to my home network. That's a new one, and makes me think that something happened to the base station. Neither of my laptops can connect, so it's not a wireless card.
Problem is, neither laptop is set up for ethernet cable. The last instructions I saw for Comcast were for Tiger, not Leopard, so the newer MacBook has never been set up for hardwire connection.
This couldn't have happened on a Friday night, when I would have had the weekend to fix it. PITA.
Anyway, reachable at select times during the day. Otherwise, not so much.

Date: 2009-08-10 05:29 pm (UTC)Short form--I have hardwire access again at home. I did a couple of things at once, so I'm not sure what worked. I shut everything down for about 5-10 minutes (including pulling out the modem battery), then brought everything back up in stages--modem, router, MacBook. No go. Tried to get online using the hardwire cable, and that didn't work, either. Then I reset the cable modem using the paperclip-in-the-little-hole method, which I admit was what the phone support lady asked me to do when I got home. Yes, I did call phone support at work, and the lady I spoke with told me that there was no reported trouble in my area. She then did something to my modem, and told me to reset it when I got home.
Anyway, I have hardwire connection, but my Airport Extreme Base Station is still blinking yellow. I need to get back to work, and I'm afraid to break this connection to try to get the wireless working again. I am a Mac user, so any Mac-Comcast tips for bringing back wireless connections would be helpful.
