When I was a kid, we had a golden retriever who was terrified of thunder and would crawl in my parents' bed whenever there was a storm. He hated 4th of July fireworks, too.
My town has them on Labor Day as well as the 4th, which means that any day in between, some nearby genius will decide that Now Is The Time for firecrackers. Those aren't fun, either.
