Alas, it was bound to happen. The short fiction markets are almost impossible to keep afloat while paying writers a decent rate.

I remember when I saw the subscription numbers a couple of years ago, and I was surprised at how low they were. IIRC, they were between 2500-3000. I don't recall whether they were straight subs, Universe Club, or both.

I sold one novella to them, and received about 75% what I was paid for my first novel. It was bloody marvelous. But I did wonder if they would be able to sustain it.
