Nice view of the Capitol dome from my room. The faint hashmarks are thanks to the window screen. You can only open these windows so far.



And a photo of the prairiefire crabapple. The blooms will either be faded or gone by the time I get home.

The photo doesn't do it justice--a little bit of sun washout going on there. The blooms are a bright, rich magenta, and thanks to the anti-rust treatments, the tree is absolutely covered with them.

When we moved here, the back yard of the clinic had a gorgeous old crabapple that was covered with bloom every year--almost that bright. But then the next people there cut it down, as people did the old Mexican plum across the street (a fountain of wonderful-smelling white in spring.)

I've never planted a crab, because they aren't truly native right here, but your picture is making me rethink that. A crabapple in the garden, on the opposite corner to the Mexican plum I put in, could be gorgeous. Dunno if their bloom is synchronized in time, though.
