I set up DW to import my LJ. Do I need to do that every day, or will the importing go on automatically?

Is mirroring the same as importing?

I know DW has a FAQ. I figure I will get an answer more quickly here.

Importing transfers over all your previous posts, so you only need to do it once if you're going to mirror. In order to mirror (or cross-post) you need to go into your account options and give the information for your LiveJournal, and then check the cross-post box when you make a new post, so it will post to LiveJournal as well. (LiveJournal doesn't have the cross-post function, so the easiest way is to post on Dreamwidth and cross-post to LJ.)

Ah. That's the kicker. Thanks.

Just FYI, your Dreamwidth journal doesn't seem to be set up to allow commenting using OpenID, despite the "Please comment there using OpenID" thingee that shows up in the posts crossposted to LJ.

Actually, if you can do so, it'd sure be nice if you could allow comments on the LJ side too.

I changed my DW settings to allow comments on the LJ side.

I will check into the OpenID thing...

Can you comment using OpenID on other DW blogs? I couldn't find a place where I could set that option for folks. Is it because I have a free account?

This was the FAQ thing I found:

How do I comment using OpenID?

If you already have an OpenID account, you can log in with that account. When you're logged in, your comments will be posted with your OpenID name by default. If you're not logged in, you can enter your OpenID directly comment form by selecting the OpenID option and entering your OpenID URL into the form. You may need to use the More Options button to move to the full reply page which includes this part of the form.

You don't need to have an OpenID account set up on Dreamwidth for this to work. If you don't, though, your comments will be treated as anonymous and you can only comment if anonymous comments are allowed. If you've set up an OpenID account and confirmed an email address for it, your OpenID comments will be treated as comments from a known person. Where you're not allowed to comment with unregistered OpenID identities, the OpenID part of the form will be de-activated. In this case, logging in with your OpenID will let you comment.

When I went to comment over there, I couldn't actually select the OpenID option...it was greyed out the same way the Anonymous option was.

And I haven't tested it on any other DW posts by other people, because I don't actually know the actually username of anyone else over there.

I fixed it. It carried over the anonymous post block that I had over here, which didn't allow OpenID either.

Ah, wait, I see....if I don't have an OpenID account set up on Dreamwidth, my comment is treated as anonymous unless I first log into DW with my OpenID....err...which doesn't actually make a whole lot of sense. I checked just now though, and apparently I can log into DW using an OpenID, which will then let me comment, but I can't just use the OpenID within the commenting form. Which seems kinda dumb.
