*yawn*

One more tech writing assignment to go. One more. One. All wrapped up by Wednesday.

It isn't that there was a huge amount of work with this class. It was just the straw that wrenched this camel's back. I did learn things, but I'm glad it's soon over. And the day job paid for it, so even better.

I miss June/July, when it stayed light outside until 830-900. Now it's dark before 7. To make matters even murkier, clouds rolled in tonight, pointmen for the thunderstorms we're supposed to see later. We need the rain, but wind, rain, and fallen leaves are going to make for one messy morning.

Last night, I cleaned leaves out of the rear gutter and tried to install at least a few of the gutter covers that have been sitting in the garage for too long. Managed to get about five 3-foot sections in, but couldn't secure them because I had trouble with the spacer clips they give you to attach the covers to the lip of the gutter. I had installed these same covers on the garage gutter a few months ago, and found it dismayingly simple. Turns out that the garage gutter was thinner, meaning that the clips slid on more easily. Add together sturdier (read: heavier gauge) house guttering with the same size clips, a few of which squeaked past Quality Control with smaller-than-average clip openings, and you have me on a step ladder swallowing foul word after foul word so that the neighbor kids can't hear me as I try to wrench the clips over the gutter lips without bending the hell out of the aluminum covers. I finally had to quit due to darkness and hungry pups, but figured that the covers would keep the leaves out, no matter how incorrectly installed.

Well, autumn leaves are SOBs, you heard it here first. I checked the covers tonight to find that quite a few had managed to work their way into the overlarge gap between cover and gutter, while the guttering that was still uncovered had refilled quite nicely. Cleaned out *those* leaves, swearing softly all the while, then took another look at the clips. This was when I spotted that a few had the smaller spacing that made it impossible for me to attach the thing to the gutter. Gathered together all the clips and performed my own inspection. Rooted out the mutants. Gave the installation another try and this time managed to attach everything properly. Wasn't able to finish the entire rear gutter, but I closed off the stopping point with some screen so that any leaves that do fall in won't be able to move downfield and wedge under the cover. Maybe Sunday, by which time the rain is supposed to have moved out, I'll be able to finish.

Still need to dig up and separate some daffodil bulbs that haven't bloomed in two years. At least the rain will make the ground softer.

I don't think the chores ever stop.

The joys of home ownership.....

We've been raking leaves out of the pool all day, when not rushing out to vote. Both of us are zombies--too much stress, illness for me, extended family for W. So the gutters are being neglected today.

Your industry is amazing, and I applaud it!

The downside is, it feels strange to sit and do nothing. Well, relatively nothing. Filing and shredding and shredding and filing...

At least I didn't uncover any forgotten bills. Always vexing when that happens.

I'm also being bad in that I am not working on my tech writing assignment because I have no idea what to work on. A prototype document. I tend to shy away from things that are work-related because I am required to keep things so vague that they're essentially worthless.

I'm tempted to blow it off, but I think it will just be late.

I must had read something incorrectly--I thought you'd turned in your last assignment?

I know what you mean about feeling like I'm "doing nothing". In my case, that's only one thing at a time as opposed to multi-tasking...

And then a time-slip occurred

I just turned in my last assignment a few minutes ago. In some prior post, I mentioned being glad it's almost over. Or maybe I messed up--wouldn't be the first time.

I'm tired. Time to put on my jammies and read my nightly chapter of HOGFATHER.

That's a good one--I'm behind, I have CARPE JUGULUM and THIEF OF TIME from my birthday to read--and looking forward to NIGHT WATCH, too. And a friend's manuscript, plus a couple of things for that writer's workshop next month.

I need to wind down slowly--will read rest of email first!
