Deep booms sounding, like cannon crackers. Tis the season, I guess. I now have a rather large dog lying on the floor in front of me, anchoring my feet in place.
Dog #2 still sniffs for the toad when she goes outside. When she is inside and hears the boomities, though, she is more concerned with why Dog #1 gets to get up on the couch with Mom and she can't.
The only time loud noises seemed to faze her was that very first night here, when the midnight coal train rumbled past. The whole house shakes when that happens, and so was she. So, telling myself that it was only for one night, and because I was so damned tired I was falling asleep standing up, I lifted her on the bed so she could sleep beside me. She was sleep in seconds, and didn't budge the entire night. And she's been trying to figure out a way to get back on the bed ever since.
Last night, she was standing on her hind legs with the front half of her body sprawled across my lap. King was lying next to me, front paws in my lap. I was buried in dogs.
I need to figure out a way to have them both up here with me when King needs comforting to counter fireworks. I was the recipient of some hurt looks for quite a while.
