Except...

Moderation in all things, excess in nothing.
-- Epicurus

Imagine that the Girl Next Door moved to the big city. Think of Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally. She's America's sweetheart with an urban sensibility. She's a post-Christian spiritualist, a pre-Monica Clintonite, and a dues-paying member of at least one social-change organization like NOW, Planned Parenthood, or the Sierra Club. You won't find her at an Earth First or PETA meeting, though. Those are the Granola Girl's stomping grounds. Progressive Girls want the world to be a better place, but they live out their politics in a moderate, left-of-center way.

I am a non meeting attending member of a couple of social change organizations, and my politics are moderate/left. I don't get all that excited about deli food, though.

If you are going to date a Progressive Girl, the one sin you can commit is to be a chameleon. Molding your opinions to fit hers will lose her respect. One very positive thing you can do is offer her new experiences -- the Progressive Girl is fearless about trying new things. Whether it's pluralism, skydiving, Asian peanut sauce, or this book, the Progressive Girl is always looking for new ideas.

There are limits. The purpose of jumping out of a plane wearing a parachute is to save one's own life because the plane is on fire. But to do it for fun??

She Might Be a Progressive Girl if:

She drives: a small SUV but really wishes it got better mileage; once she can get a good hybrid, she will.

Um...I drive a Forester, and yes, my next vehicle will be a hybrid...

She can talk for more than ten minutes about: just about anything.

Maybe...

She begins her sentences with: "Susan Sarandon says..."

Not in this lifetime.

She'd never: pass up the chance for a new experience.

Yes, she would.

She owns any of the following: a water filter, a tabletop fountain, an acre of rain forest, a mutt from the pound.

The water filter is part of the coffee maker, and Mickey came from a no-kill shelter--does that count?

Ok, maybe I'm a little Progressive

Hmmm, I didn't think Amy would come out this way, and the bullet points are mostly wrong

Actually, Amy came out as a hybrid of Progressive Girl and Academic Girl.

What's that? You're talking about SOME OTHER Amy? Ha. I'll have you know that I am the The Amy, and don't you forget it.

I believe we are talking an alter ego Amy.

Considering I'm a figment of [livejournal.com profile] trolleypup's imagination, I can deal with being not-THE Amy. :/

But the part about beating people's asses at Scrabble? Yeah, that's dead on.

C'est moi, though the options on a lot of those questions were pretty awful.

So is this book any good?

Cooking to Hook Up could only help me I think. I'm picturing the progressive girl as enjoying my homemade chicken & noodles with fresh bread and corn on the cob, with milk to drink; followed by a Bass Ale or a Newcastle while listening to Something to Shout About. That seems to be what I like anyhow. Is that too eclectic? Should I be broadening my horizons here?

I don't know if the book is any good. These questions are the first I've heard of it.

We are once again twins! And like you, most of it didn't seem like me either.

It wasn't as far off as some quizzes I've taken. And I didn't find any spelling mistakes, unlike the occasionally messy things that come out of Quizilla.

FWIW, yes, I know we all make spelling/grammar errors. But if you're going to take the trouble to post a quiz, especially one with lovely illos, shouldn't you make that little extra effort?
