ksmith: (flowers)

The first lawnmower of the season. I *think* my neighbor is simply using his lawn tractor to vacuum debris. Things are greening, but no one's lawn is long enough to mow.

Seeds are planted in the starter thingie. I never sit at the dining area table, so I cleared it off, pushed it up against the windowed door with the southern exposure, and set up the grow light and seed trays. The dining area is the only place in the house with anything approaching decent light, and I am hoping that between that and the grow light, the seeds get a good start.

Going to try the Black Crimson tomatoes again, along with the Sunset's Red Horizon, which didn't even sprout last year. Also kohlrabi, straight neck yellow squash, and zucchini. Green peppers, which I will buy as plants--the feed store lady said that they should be ready around Mother's Day.

Herbs a'plenty will be attempted, too. Three kinds of basil, chives, curly parsley, cilantro, sage, and thyme. Here's a photo of the set-up. I don't know why it looks so dark--the area is actually fairly bright.

Strawberries, too. But those plants will arrive in the mails.

Along with the planting, I grocery shopped. Did laundry. Vacuumed again. ::mud hate::

Sunday afternoon is winding down. I still need to sort the recyclables and put out the garbage. Could I have another day, please? I am not ready for it to be Monday.

Blackhawks seem to be winning. 2-0 over the Kings, with about 4 minutes to go. Not saying another word.

UPDATE: 4-1, Hawks win. First game back for Patrick Sharp, who was out for 16 games. Hawks were 6-10 without him. He scored twice today, and had an assist. I think they missed him more than they'd admit.

In my neighborhood, it seems to be leaf raking day. The weather is so nice, it is a shame to spend it inside, but not much can be done in gardens yet (already strewn seeds for salad greens because don't care as much if they get frosted). As I'm not a raker, I picked up twigs (and remembered why one does yard work in pants - burs in my skirt).

Folks around here have been raking all week.

I have branches to pick up. Maybe next weekend. This weekend went by too quickly.
