As in 40s this morning, 50s during the day. Frost warnings have been mentioned. It's getting to be that time of year.
Today was a yardwork-free Saturday, the first in weeks. It felt strange to not be cutting or raking or trimming. Part of me wanted to go outside and find something to do, but the rest of me banded together and talked me out of it. When the time came to turn loose the pups, I spent the time sitting in the sun watching them play. Almost fell asleep. Quite a sane way to spend part of a fall afternoon.
Then the mail arrived, including my long-awaited copy of Pterry's GOING POSTAL. Dove in almost immediately I freed it from its package. Made it to Chapter 3, then set it aside to kick out 1025 words of ENDGAME. Finished the Jani-John-Dieter chapter. Now I can add business to the pages of Jani-Lucien dialogue that plopped into my lap a few days ago. Looking forward to that, even though business, the actions the characters perform around the dialogue, can be my least favorite part of the exercise. It tends to get repetitive during the first draft stage, I know it's repetitive, and that bothers me. Even though I know I will able to go back and change it, all I can think of at the time is that I have Niall smoking too much or John fidgeting too much or could we all stop staring into the middle distance please and how the hell do I get Dieter across the room where he needs to be?
Posted a homework assignment. Next on the agenda is to come up with an idea for a document that will serve as my class project. Still thinking on that.
Tired now. May read a bit, then call it a day.

Date: 2004-10-03 07:16 am (UTC)Now my mind is spinning in a Jasper Ffordian (sp?) direction, thinking of a world where writers are able to have relationships with the characters of their choosing.
But be that as it may, Richard Moon pointed out that illos perhaps necessitating the breakdown of the book into actual chapters, which isn't the usual course for a Discworld book. I went back and took a good look at those stamps--they are really neat. I would love to see sheets of colored stickers in con dealers room, bearing in mind that somewhere, someone is going to use them on letters and at least a few may even get through.

Start writing with a half bottle of wine next to your keyboard. Whenever you hit a spot like that take a slug and keep writing. When you finish the half bottle (or a full bottle, it's up to you), save your work and go to bed.
Hey, it could work!
As for the temp, send some of that cold down here. It's going to be 88 today. I'm tired of summer. They keep promising us a wetter and colder than normal fall and winter, but neither have deigned to appear as yet.
It's a royal pain.
