I only have one, and I can't see why I'd even want another. I suppose in a large family more than one might make some sort of sense, but for other people, if you've got the cash for more than one tv, why not just buy one bigger/better one instead?

We also only use one TV. The bigger shock to poeple, though, is that we only own one car. They seem to have a lot of trouble understanding that one.

I think some people do. I would understand it if there were 3-4 folks in the house.

I haven't watched cable or broadcast tv since 1994, though I do from time to time watch DVDs on the one television in my home. (Which does not have an antenna, btw, so it picks up zip.)

An antenna won't get you much of anything come this summer. It'll be cable, satellite TV or nuthin'.

Actually, with my nifty converter box, digital gets me more over the antenna - channels can have subchannels.

I enjoy sports. Cooking shows. A couple of the political shows. And movies. I could probably survive without broadcast TV, but I like having it around.

We don't have space for another TV. Some people like having them in their bedroom, but even if I wanted one there, we have nowhere to put it. We don't even have a spot where we could hang up a flat screen.

We also do not get cable of any kind, we don't have NetFlix, and we don't own a gaming system. All of these things seem to be considered pretty bizarre by a lot of people around us.

I have two, but that’s just because when we merged our belongings, my wife and I put the second one in the parlor so kids can watch DVDs or play video games while their parents are visiting. Otherwise it just gathers dust...

Every now and again I consider getting a second TV, so I can have one in the livingroom and one in my bedroom. I like to watch the TV when I get up in the morning (news, weather, reruns of Angel), and before I go to bed at night (Adult Swim on Cartoon Network).

I often find myself falling asleep in front of the TV around 10pm. But then I have to get up and organize myself for bed, and by then I'm wide awake again. It might be better if I had the TV in my bedroom, and I could simply click "off" when I was drowsy.

OTOH, I'm this close to suspending my cable for a few months, just to see if I can do without it.

One seems a perfectly good number to me. I can kinda understand having one in the living room and one in your bedroom if you lived with flatmates, but otherwise? One TV seems more than enough.

One seems perfectly sensible to me. Mine -- my one TV -- is in my living room/media room/library/thing. I don't believe -- and never have -- that a TV belonged anywhere else in the house. (Why in God's name put one in the bedroom? There are so many other, more interesting things to do in there! And why in a kid's room? The kid's got homework to do, sleeping, reading, and creating to do!) More than one is conspicuous consumerism.

But then, I suspect that your coworkers are of a different tribe than your writer-peep community. It's just a different culture.

Writer-peeps might outdo my coworkers with regard computers/laptops etc, given that we're so back-up conscious. But friends with kids have more than one computer as well.

I was told that my new TV wasn't big enough. It's 32". I was supposed to buy a 50". With Blu-Ray.

I have two in the house that work, but the little one lives in the closet except when I have a mare ready to foal, when it becomes the monitor for the barn cam. I hook up an antique camcorder and a whole lot of coaxial cable, hang it up in the barn rafters, et voila. MareStareVision.

I don't see why anyone needs more than one tv.

That's the same sound I hear from the service reps at DirecTV when they ask me which receiver I'm having trouble with and I say "the only one we have." They usually have to take a personal moment and adjust their worldview before they can try to solve my problem.

Well you need to have one in every room in the house. Especially one in the refrigerator and on the kitchen counter, one in each bathroom. Can't forget the master shower and the closets!

I personally have 2. One in the main room and one in my bedroom. I could get away with one, I don't see the need for them everywhere. My father for example has 7 in his house.

For many years I had no TV and was just fine. When I bought my house 4 years ago I bought a new TV but only so I could watch DVD. Then I started this job and got SKY as a perk, so I spend a bit of time watching Food Channel and UK TV.

But the majority of my TV time is spent watching the latest TV episodes of all my programs that my flatmate downloads of the net.

Personally I absolutely hate a TV in the bedroom, beds are for sleeping and reading!

I hate a TV in the living room (old family history deleted here)...when guests come, they should not have to wonder if I'd rather watch TV (my husband would rather play a game on the computer, but that's not the same as "Are we interrupting your program?"

The bedroom is private space. It's for anything I want it to be for.

But mileage on this varies a lot. For 17 years we didn't have a TV at all.

I really dislike the male necessity to have a TV or a screen on in the house ALL THE TIME!! My personal theory is that men are powered by the rays that emit from TV screen/PC monitor and its why they feel the need to have one turned on, even when they arent watching, in the same room or even in the house!

When I was part of a couple I was often turning a TV off due to lack of a male presence in the room, but the first thing they say when they come back in, is "who turned off the TV?"

And I cannot sleep when there is a TV on in the bedroom :(

I can't sleep when there's a light on anywhere in the house (which includes the TV.)

I find I'm turning on the TV less now that we have the converter box on it...it takes two remotes (to power the box and change channels, Remote 1, and to turn on the TV and control volume, Remote 2.) I watch two "regular" shows (usually, not fanatically) and used to watch PBS's "Mystery" when it was a series I liked. Now it appears to be gone forever, and since the PBS stations went digital they no longer show the British comedies I watched sometimes. It's easier to look at weather online than to mess with two remotes.

One here. And it's technically owned by my sister/roommate. And it only shows what we put into the dvd/vcr. And that's been about the state of things in my relationship with TV for 13 years.

Err...

No TV, never have had one of my own, I think...now that Troy has moved out, there are no TVs in the house (for the three of us).

Also...no car. But before anyone gets excited, I put about 10K miles on rental cars every year, and there is a local Hertz a block and a half away.

Also, living in SF means that you are not considered a complete freak for not having these things.

I have 3 - my bedroom, what was Mom's bedroom, & the living room. But the one in my bedroom has a cassette player, Mom's has a DVD player. I watch the Netflix either on her tv or on my laptop.
