Instead I'm watching The Chronicles of Narnia. Tilda Swinton is marvelous, and the little girl who plays Lucy is one of the best child actors I've ever seen.

We were watching the same thing... (dinner interrupted.)

Will you be going back to it?

It was just headed into the scary bits, so probably not. (The four-year-old's still up!)

They were scary bits, weren't they?

Yup... and ~I~ don't like to watch what they do to Aslan!

Yeah, I had to grab the tissues during that part. Because no, I had never read the books and all I knew of the story was from lurking on the edges of online discussions so OK, allegory, and he would be coming back, wouldn't he? In this movie, not the sequel? Because Swinton became hateful at that moment and I wanted her to die.

I think the girl playing Lucy is frighteningly spot on for the role. She completely captivates.

All four kids were good, but she was special.

Serendipity! That's what's in the current Netflix folder on our TV stand.

It's a sign! Must go watch!

Swinton is a minor goddess.

I first saw her in Constantine--I know some people hate that movie, but it's a favorite of mine and her Gabriel is a major reason. The look on her face when she says "Father?"

I need to make an icon, I think...

My favorite bit of that movie--which I loved enough that I wanted to turn around and walk back into the theatre and see it again--was the fight between the White Witch and Peter. Because oh my god, they really looked like they were trying to kill each other. I had *no sense* at *all* that Swinton was in any way holding back because she was fighting a kid. It was *awesome*. :)

It didn't surprise me, though. She purged every shred of mercy from that character right at the beginning. She did not hold back at any point.

Well, it surprised me not because of characterization, but because of the sheer glee and passion of the thing. It suited perfectly. I was just impressed they pushed it that hard.

Awesome icon. <3

You're right. That might have been a place where she could have held back just a little, showed a shred of something other than the ruthlessness that she was, and she didn't. She wanted to win.

This is another movie I may buy for keepsies. I didn't think I'd like it, and I liked it lots.

Awesome icon. <3

Constantine is my official Guilty Pleasure.

I've been listening to the audiobook of _The Magician's Nephew_ in the last few days, as read by Kenneth Branagh. As expected, he is wonderful, and makes one of my least favourite Narnia books (at least from childhood remembrance) very listenable.

I have the DVD of Narnia and have yet to get to it -- you've pushed it up my TBW pile.
