Rumors and news all over the place about shake-ups at LJ and possible impact on the service. I hope it stays put--it's easy, and most all my friends are here. I suppose I should think about moving this blog to my website via Wordpress, which is something to discuss with Webmistress Ruta. When the panic traffic dies down on LJBook, I'll archive my four years worth of posts, then ponder Wordpress.

In other news, King's new bed arrived today.

It's a Snoozer Luxury Pet Sofa, in Anthracite, which is a charcoal grey shade. Other companies offered more of a color selection, but KennelVet offered the best price I could find, and I figured that King wouldn't care. I bought it because he is starting to stiffen up around the hips, his old bed was mashed flat, and I figured he deserved 7 inches of orthopedic padding to sleep on. Because he is, after all, the King.

The bed arrived in two boxes, the main pad + upholstery in one and the bolsters in the other. I wrestled the bolsters into their slots, zipped them in, then set the bed on the floor and waited for King to claim it. Welp, he got up on it, lay down. Tried to do his usual front-end-hanging-off-the-front-of-the-bed, and flinched when he realized how high he was off the floor. Got off the bed, and wouldn't go back to it. Kept pawing me in his "Mom--what's going on" way. Then Gaby started barking at me because if it isn't all about her, she seeks to make it so. Then King started barking at me, too.

Fine. I fed them dinner. Then I ate, all the while watching King. First he lay in the kitchen, then on the living room rug. Then, finally, he stepped back onto the new bed and lay down. He looked worried at first, I guess because of the height. Then he closed his eyes. Before long, he was snoring. I hope he takes to the thing, because it will be a lot easier on his aging bod.

Yes, Gaby will be getting a new bed, too. A Bowser Diamond Double Doughnut, in the "Duke" pattern. I just hope that King grows so attached to his new bed that he doesn't try to sleep on hers, because its upper weight limit is 45 pounds and he'd smush it flat.

Kris, I now have three WordPress blogs embedded in my websites (yes, I know, I'm insane to have so many blogs, but there's a Reason...)

Ruta's done them all. We decided to go with one existing "theme" and modify it for all three--they don't look much alike at first glance. My chosen theme wasn't written for the WordPress upgrade, but worked just fine with it when Ruta switched to the new version.

I find the WordPress software easier to use and faster as well. It won't do some of what LJ does, but since LJ has never really done what I wanted it to, I'm happier with those. (They actually look like I want them to; uploading images is faster and easier.) They don't have the community feel, though, of LJ and if LJ goes bust I will miss that aspect of it.

I think the long-term plan will be to make the switch. I like the idea of my blog being based within my website.

My sites are all hosted at sff.net (or Greyware...comes to the same thing) and techsupport there installed the WordPress software and handed it over to us.

I like having the blog on my own site, too--I looked at having it *at* WordPress, which has other advantages, but having it under my own thumb, as it were, gives me that feeling of Ultimate Power. (Fake, like all feelings of Ultimate Power, but satisfying nonetheless.)

Many other themes are available from WordPress...I chose to use only one and do customizations on it because I thought it would be faster and easier. If you want to look at them to see what can be done with the template I chose:

http://www.speedofdark-thebook.com/blog/
http://www.80acresonline.org/blog/

WordPress templates tend to put the sidebar on the right, not the left. You'd want to use one already optimized for the newest iteration of the software, probably, and not Goldshire.
