I was scooping the innards out of a cantaloupe when a piece squirted away and fell onto the floor. It being near to dinnertime, Gaby grabbed it. Chewed it for a bit, dropped it, sniffed it, picked it up again, chewed it some more. In the end, she ate it. It was a fair-sized piece, too.

I know that some of the fancier dog foods contain apples and blueberries, but I don't think melons are on the menu.

Canteloupe won't hurt her any... Heck, Braxton Bragg even goes for the stuff. I wouldn't make it a mainstay of the diet, but a little bite is just fine.

I was surprised, because the melon was pretty ripe and hence pretty sweet. She licked the piece, then chomped it up.

I'm not used to a dog with a sweet tooth.

Either one of mine will mug you for sweets, given half a chance. I figure fruit is better for them than pastries, so I let them have a bit of fruit when I eat it, and reserve pastries for myself.

Our last dog would eat anything. Carrots, oranges and sweets were particular favorites.

I had a cat who loved cantaloupe and corn - when she was in her last days, those were the only foods I could tempt her with!
