The website has been updated--thanks Ruta! New puppy pics, and some tweaking of the book pages.

Also a newer Jani 5 synopsis, in which I hope I haven't given away too much. There are some pivotal things that happen in this one that I really don't want to allude to. I'm not being coy. Just don't want to give away the game before I've written the actual book.

This one may be more action oriented--more like LAW than say, RULES.

Now I need to noodle over a title. [livejournal.com profile] daveamongus was responsible for CONTACT IMMINENT--I asked folks in my SFFNet newsgroup for military terms to describe confrontations, and he offered a few that the Marines use, including CI. I think that worked really well.

Any good military terms to describe the end of things, an operation or a battle? I'm thinking of Endgame, and may use that as the working title. Let it be said, though, that in three of four cases so far, my working title has fallen by the wayside. CODE's original title was GLASS GREEN, an allusion to a poem in one of le Carre's Smiley books--every editor who read the ms felt the title had to go. RULES OF CONFLICT was originally ANARCHY RULES, but the WWF started using that term around that time, and editor thought a change was in order to avoid any mistaken association. LAW was always LAW. CI was originally SPACER SEQUENCE, a title that I liked but unfortunately always needed to explain to people. Having to explain titles is Bad. Thus the survey. But I was happy with CONTACT. You try for a title that speaks on several levels, alluding to moods and tones as well as the main plot of the book.

It was a busy, productive, too-short weekend. Mowed the lawn. Organized the contents of an armoire and a chest of drawers, sorting out garbage and donations to Salvation Army. Updated the website, which had been hanging overhead in a threatening manner for a couple of weeks.

Now I need to get ready for the work week, boo hiss and all that.

Interesting

Looks like it's going to be an action-packed book, on all levels. =) Any preliminary date set?

No date yet. We are currently in the process of revising my contract to build in the new due date. Since it hasn't been settled, I don't want to jinx anything by givng out info yet. After they have the proposed due date in hand, my editor can work in fitting it into the upcoming Eos schedule. That date could then change if I manage to finish the book early, which would constitute an event of Biblical proportion and is therefore not likely to happen. If it did, though, she said innocently, there's a chance Endgame could be used to plug a hole in the schedule, which happens more often than you might think.
