Saw Gaby again today. Took her for a walk, and sat with her for a while. She wants to come home--I had to tug her a little to get her to come back to the kennel area, and had to walk into her cage to get her to follow me in--I then stepped out and left her. She cried.

I guess she cried so loudly after she came out of anesthesia that Vet finally had to hold her muzzle closed. The clinic isn't that big, and they could hear her everywhere. This is apparently something that huskies do. Vet is pretty darned sure that Gaby is part husky.

Talked a little bit with the vet. If I had waited a few months to do this, things could have gotten pretty bad. Gaby's uterus was inflamed *and* enlarged and might have kicked over into a condition called pyometra, which is bad with a capital B. Vet just operated on a 10-year old terrier suffering from that condition. The dog had to be put on high-powered antibiotics just to be able to get through surgery, which she had only a 60% chance of getting through. Her uterus was a 3-lb pus-filled fragile sac, and even if you get that out, there's the danger of sepsis and other nasty infections. The good news is that she came through surgery and post-op and she's fine.

I saw more nasty surgery photos during this bout of googling than I ever want to see again.

I'm very glad this is over with.
