Pasta/sausage/bean soup and a cookie. We'll leave nutrition for another day.

Ok, I had a slice of whole grain seeds-and-everything bread as well.

We've been busy with the usual, yardwork and such. Parked both vehicles in the garage for the first time ever the other day, which is such a cause for glee on my part that it's sad. Cleaned out the office closet as well so there's plenty of room to set up my guitar in its stand. I have signed up for guitar lessons at the local music school, beginning after Labor Day. I hope I keep up with it this time because I would really like to be able to bring my guitar to cons in a few years' time.

Colored my hair Sunday. Kind of an oopsy. I had previously used a permanent color which I didn't realize was permanent until I had it on my head--minor detail, directions. So I left it on and found that what was supposed to have been bronzey-brown instead revealed the red undertones, which don't really work with pink-toned skin like mine. I let it go for a few weeks, then on Sunday applied some 28-shampoos-and-out dark brown, which soaked right into the dyed hair, leaving it brown-just-this-side-of-black. A little too dark for my skin, but oddly right just now. Works with the black glasses. I'm wearing a black shirt today. I look like a middle-aged Goth Girl. Played Sisters of Mercy on the way into work today just to reinforce the feeling.

Haircut tonight. Time to trim the shaggy ends. We'll see what my cutter says about the color. We had been discussing burgundy haircolor, and I'm wondering if chunking is a possibility.

OTOH, I probably don't want to punk up my hair so close the the quarterly update meeting.

Received some good research book tips from a writer on another list. Alexander the Great and the Logistics of the Macedonian Army by Donald W Engels, for info such as how much weight horses of various sizes can carry. Add to that Feeding Mars, which covers logistics from Roman times on. Will tuck the info away for the possible future fantasy.

Oh, the hair coloring issue! It just about got the better of me! In an effort to keep the grays at bay, I progressed from the 28 washes to the semi-permanent, to the permanent, changed brands over and over, went darker and darker, until it was just too dark. The gray just got more and more resistent to the color. So, I decided to bite the bullet and seek a professional. That was about a year ago. She progressively dyed my hair lighter and lighter. Every two times I went, she would go one shade lighter. Eventually, she added highlights around the face. And continued going lighter. I would have the base color done regularly, then the highlights every so often. Finally she gave me highlights all over. I have gone from a very dark brown to a honey brown with blond highlights. I am very pleased with the results, and I get a lot of compliments. I can have gray roots peeping through, but they don't show up as "loudly" as they did with the dark brown. It is expensive, though. Maybe someday I will have the nerve to go all gray, but not just yet.
Don't know what chunking is. Something similar maybe? Good luck with it all. A man just looks more distinguished with the gray--so unfair.

"Chunking" consists of thicker blocks of color, usually around the face.

And I made my decision--in 5 weeks, when I go back for a trim, we're gonna add burgundy chunks as well. There are multiple shades possible--we're probably going to go with a shade with purple undertones, which would work best with my skintone.

I don't have much grey yet, just a few stands scattered through the ash brown. I've tried going lighter, but no matter what type of lightening anyone tries, it still reveals the danged red undertones in my hair. My current cutter thinks that platinum blond is probably the only blond that would work with my skintone, and that's just a little too high-maintenance for me. Just a little.
