Busy.

I've taken two weeks' leave from the day job, with the intent of writing, getting my computer situation straightened out, writing, getting Kuro serviced, writing, getting some stuff done around the house, and writing.

First section of the wip has gone out to beta readers. [livejournal.com profile] pbray reported back in a manner encouraging, which gives me a nice boost as I plot out the next sections.

Tonight, hockey, KO & Rachel, baking, laundry.Tomorrow, I hope to find out whether the iMac and/or the iBook can be repaired or if I will need to buy a new back-up system. It's supposed to be a really nice weekend. I hope it's warm enough that I can write on the deck.

How old are your old computers? In my experience, it's cheaper and less frustrating in the long haul to repair if their less than 3 years old, replace if they're more...

I've had good luck with techrestore.com if you don't have someone local you like.

The iBook is 4.5 years old. The iMac is about 4. They're both out of warranty. I'm taking them to the Apple Store. It may be more expensive, but I bought my MacBook there and I'm happy with the service.

I don't have enough data yet to know about cost. I use techrestore for stuff that's out of warranty, and Apple for stuff that's in, so I can't do a one-to-one comparison.

I've sure gotten my money's worth out of the Apple Care plan. And Apple, for their part, has fixed every problem I've asked them to, though some things required diligence on my part. They've been generally friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Good luck with the break, and the weather.

Also, you may have specific qualities for beta readers and if I don't fit them that is totally okay, no offense taken, but having just turned in the Massive Tome, I could read an opening segment . . .

just sayin'.
