This email is from an anonymous lawmaker and it should give you a flavor for what's going on right now in Congress.
"Paulsen and congressional Republicans, or the few that will actually vote for this (most will be unwilling to take responsibility for the consequences of their policies), have said that there can't be any "add ons," or addition provisions. Fuck that. I don't really want to trigger a world wide depression (that's not hyperbole, that's a distinct possibility), but I'm not voting for a blank check for $700 billion for those mother fuckers."
Me again--I hope those opposed to this bailout package stick to their guns. I've sent emails to both my senators. My Rep is a Blue Dog, so I'm not sure what good contacting her will do, but I will probably give it a go.
What do we want? Oversight! When do we want it? Now!

Date: 2008-09-22 02:50 am (UTC)They're looting the Treasury before they all runlikehell for sanctuaries where they've stashed their money, and frpm which they can't be deported. Just in case, you know, all the amnesties and pardons and get out of jail free cards get rescinded.
My rep is a Blue Dog, too. She is also up for reelection against a very popular education-friendly Republican. I reminded her that Blue Dogs are allegedly fiscal conservatives, and this is profoundly opposed to her alleged views.

Date: 2008-09-22 03:22 am (UTC)My Blue Dog reps a heavily Republican district, so she's pretty much a DINO. Which is irritating because I happily voted for her until she revealed her true colors--I should've realized what her plans were when her campaign lit made no mention of her party. When I asked the worker who gave me the info whether she was a Dem, the woman said she was running more as an independent.
I understand that a true Dem wouldn't win in this district, but which is worse, a paper Dem who sides with the administration on important issues, or a Republican? At least with a Repub, you know what's going on.
