She's here now. She's very active. King is exhausted, and Gaby shows little sign of slowing down. They already chased one another around the birdbath garden many times, and they're outside now. I understand there's a great deal of excitement on both sides.

One of the first things she did after she came inside was poop on the hallway rug. I understood she was housebroken, but well, excitement.

The folks who adopted her on Wednesday brought her back on Thursday. They said she kept wanting to go outside. They lived in an apartment with a community yard, and I can see how that wouldn't have worked out. Like I said, very active. The fact that she was cooped up in a kennel for most of the week probably didn;t help.

The vet can't tell whether she's been fixed or not, so it could get interesting.

She's very affectionate and playful. A sweet dog. Unless she slows down eventually, she may wear King out. She's already worn me out.

She's eaten about a cup of dry food. At first, I tried giving her dry food with some liver and canned food, and she tried to roll in it instead of eat it. Must have been the smell, because she ate the dry food in the usual way.

I'll post a picture as soon as she sits still enough to let me take one.

UPDATE: She lying at my feet now. King fled to the dining room so he could get some shut-eye. We'll see how long the quiet lasts.

UPDATE #2: She heard a sound in the dining room. Didnt realize it was King. Woofed quietly, then went into the dining room to check things out. Saw it was King. Came back in living room to lie at my feet.

I'm glad she found a home and King a playmate.

Well, *that* was a fast turnaround! I'm glad you have her and hope she works out well for you and King. Doranna will have to explain to me why the vet couldn't tell if she'd been spayed or not. On Tippy, it left a scar (do they do it laparoscopically these days?)

I can just imagine Gaby, who'd met you and King, thinking "Wait--these aren't the right people--I don't smell that big black dog on them--what happened!!" And then "HERE they are! Oh, goody!!"

Even a housebroken dog may make mistakes in a new house... you might want to leash her to you for a few days to make sure she can't get out of your sight.

The vet said that it felt as though she hadn't been, but she couldn't be sure. I don't know if they'll need to do an ultrasound to make sure, or what. I'll find out tomorrow, when I go to fill out the adoption paperwork.

I've closed the doors to the office and bedrooms. The leash is a good idea.

Wow. How quickly things change--saw your earlier post and then this one. Hope she slows down a bit, and that King enjoys having a new friend to play with.

I pass the vets' office on my way home, so I stopped in to find out what the story was. I mean, if the folks took her right away, I can understand why they let them have her. Bird in the hand, and all that. I just wish they would have told me, like I said.

Anyway, I stopped in, which was when I found out that the folks had already brought her back. So I drove home, got King, and brought him along for visit #2. He pretty much ignored Gaby--too many smells in the office backyard. Too many distractions.

I decided to take the plunge and bring her home. She and King pretty much ignored one another in the truck, as well. Nothing happened until I turned them loose in the backyard, at which point King twigged on to the fact that THERE WAS ANOTHER DOG HERE. Some trepidation at first. Then they started playing.

They're both sleeping now, which is a blessing. Gaby wouldn't leave King alone there for a while, which I guess is normal. If King were about three years younger, this would be perfect. As it is, unless he gets into better condition, she is going to wear him out.

But of course, if she keeps this up, he *will* get in better condition. Or so I'd think...

He needs to lose 5 pounds--he weighs 125, and vet thinks 120 would be perfect for him. He'll lose it in a week if this keeps up.

But conditioning, yes. I would like to see him improve in that regard. It wouldn't help if I ran with him--my best run is his slow trot. I don't want to try running him while riding a bike because I've seen folks wipe out trying to do that. But I have a big back yard, and King loves to play tag, so we may have something here.

That's awesome. For what it's worth, when we got Sierra to keep Dusty company, he was was sluggish. She used to bite him and make him play and finally he'd move. And play. And have the best fun ever. He would roll his eyes at her, and he adored her. I bet King is terribly pleased, even if she ends up managing him.

Gaby is a flirt--she sniffs around King and rubs against him and goads him into chasing her. I will have to make sure she's fixed. King isn't an issue, but my fence is only about four feet high.

King has always loved being chased. I can tell how he's slowed down over the last 4 years--I remember how he used to dash around the perimeter of the yard with Mickey at his heels.

This will be good for him. He needed it.
