Pictures and stuff
Aug. 12th, 2008 02:46 pmOther Worldcon memories...
I did actually get some writing done before the roof caved in. Thursday morning, I took off to the 16th Street pedestrian mall. Wound up at a Peet's, which boasted a cozy interior and piped in baroque. Added to the early morning wordage, and managed to hit 1K.
Much business takes place at Peet's. In the hour and a half or so that I was there I saw at least one meeting and a couple of what appeared to be interviews. A few minutes before I left, a man and woman in business attire sat at the table next to mine. Being nosy, I listened in. I don't recall how it came up in conversation, but the man said that he was Ned Lamont's nephew. As I was leaving, I really wanted to tell him how much I wished his uncle had won (the last CT senate race, which left us Lieberman the DINO), but that would have been admitting that I was eavesdropping, so I refrained.
After the Eos party on Friday, Diana-my-editor and I went to dinner at a place called Vesta's, which was only a block or so from LoDo's Bar & Grill, the site of the party. Really nice place, which specializes in grilled entrees which you dip in your choice of sauces, a sweet, a savoury, and a spicy. We started with a cheese plate, three types of cheeses which I think included a brie-type, an asiago?, and one other. Then came the entrees--I had grilled tuna and Diana had grilled salmon, again with a choice of sauces--mine were, iirc, thai-mango sweet and sour, rosemary-ginger, and tamarind chipotle. Simply delicious stuff.
But the absolute piece de resistance was dessert. Dark Chocolate Boca Negra, the absolute best chocolate cake, flourless or otherwise, that I have ever had. Incredibly rich--Diana and I shared a piece, and could only manage half of it. Again with the sauces. The strawberry was the best.
I brought my camera with the intention of taking many pictures, but I only managed two nearly identical shots of the conference center bear:

However, I retrieved King from the kennel this morning, and took a few snaps of him with his nifty little blue yes-they-groomed-me-I'm-all-clean-now-Mommy! scarf:
In the truck--King almost jumped through the door leading from the grooming area to the kennel office when he saw me through the glass. Then he dragged me out of the kennel office and out to the truck.

Out in his yard:

And finally, one tired puppy who is happy to be home:

He's dozing now.
As for me, still dealing with this cold. Much nose blowing, and my ears are still stuffed. I should have learned by now that the sore throat is only the beginning.
