AMEN SISTER!!!
I wrapped my skull up in trying to figure out the topology of Mars last week until I realized I just needed to write and not worry about the research.
Thanks for validating my newbie-ness!

You don't have to worry about the research
now
. You will eventually.
Sometimes you can retrofit. Sometimes nasty facts do trap you in a corner.
I have found that the limitations imposed by facts can spur the story along. OK, I have to work within these limits--how can I make this work?
Simpler is better, at least for me. I have sometimes tried to do too much, and wound up with an impossible situation that needed to be jettisoned.

Not how I do, usually. I feel so daring.
