ksmith: (gimme a break)

Went home at lunchtime to find that fence-installing neighbor had cut my cable connection. So. No TV/landline/internets. Repair guy is scheduled for late tomorrow afternoon, but they will schedule him earlier if they can.

It's a little disconcerting to find myself sans steering wheel on the info superhighway, but it isn't as though I don't have other things to do. Bring up the suitcase and start thinking about wardrobe holes that need filling in for Denver. Vacuum. Clean the spare room. Gee, maybe even write something.

Go write something! Code of Conduct kept me up til 3 am.

... it might amuse you to know that the reason it kept me up til 3 am is that I just moved, and I have many books, and I have been trying to winnow. Among the books are a bunch I got for free when a friend of mine moved to Berlin taking nothing with her but the dog (meaning, leaving with me that part of her sci-fi library she couldn't sell). Previously in my winnowing endeavors I struck out by re-reading Klaus Theweleit's Male Fantasies (never hope you will be able to get rid of a book you've recommended to two friends) and Plato's Republic (hated it as a sophomore in college, but found it surprisingly interesting now). So I asked a friend to pick some unpromising books out of the box of sci-fi leftovers, and he picked Code of Conduct because the cover of the first printing is incredibly cheesy.

Never judge a book by its cover, indeed. I'm looking forward to hunting down the rest of them. Thank you for an enjoyable night's reading.

*sigh* Some folks love those girl-with-gun covers. Others...don't.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

The cover of the last book in the series, ENDGAME, is quite different in tone and content. Many folks like that cover best of the five.
