When the day begins rainy and windy and even the dogs seem depressed, it isn't a good idea to try to write an utter downer of a scene. I don't know how I wound up in the middle of this particular scene, but I'm here and I need Out. There needs to at least be sunshine when I write it.

There's this funny interlude. Maybe I need to noodle with that for a while...

This is so me. You'd think, in theory, that a depressing, grey, rainy (at least not snowy) day would kind of be the perfect envelope for that dark and depressing scene -- but it doesn't work that way for me, either.

It gets to be too much. I thought about what I needed to write, which really was profoundly unpleasant, and decided No. It's a coffee shop scene. I should be surrounded by talking, laughing humanity, while picking at a piece of cake that someone else made.

I should then hope that no one reads over my shoulder.

LOL!! Yes, I can see where that hope would come in :).

In an interview, Scott Turow talked about writing (in longhand on legal pads, iirc) on the train, and the reaction of an older woman who read over his shoulder as he wrote one of his graphic sex scenes. Shock? Disgust? I forgot. His attitude was pretty much Oh Well.

Hmmm -- does it help to post pictures of your favorite site or play woodsy/oceany music?

Yeah, doesn't work for me, either.

Did you put it aside for awhile or just push through?

It's rainy and gloomy here today; I just want to curl up and read, but I've got to get some stuff out before I can do so.

Good luck!

I switched back and forth between it and a lighter scene. Didn't finish either, which is the danger when one flits.
