Last workday before I leave for Charlottesville on Monday. Didn't get as much done as I wanted, and actually spent the last hour and a half just cleaning off my desk and organizing the stacks. Dumped lots of paper, and left behind some semblance of organization and stretches of visible laminate. It will make it that much easier when I get back because I will have to hit the ground running. A couple of good things happened--two big things sort of resolved themselves, which meant I could ease back on them. Of course, several little things swarmed in to take their place, but those got done.

I won't be back in the office until April 1. That means I can tell myself that I won't be returning until next month. It sounds better that way.

In job hunt news, one of the three jobs I applied for proved a no-go. I fulfilled the minimum requirements, but they planned to pursue other candidates--the usual cut and paste kiss-off. Oh well, that wasn't the job I was really interested in. We'll see how the other two go.

Busy weekend. Last minute shopping. Packing. Getting the puppies prepped for their trip to the boarding kennel. I admit I'm a little concerned. This will be King's first kennel stay, and I'm hoping that Mickey won't think he's being taken back to a shelter. The good thing about this kennel is that the pups will be rooming together. I can bring along their own brand of food, as well as whatever toys and bedding I want them to have. In addition, there are activities that I can sign them up for--I swear, I feel like I'm sending my kids to summer camp. I can sign King up for a pool party if I wish. Given how much he loves water, this is probably a good thing to do. There are nature walks, a playground, and 20-minutes breaks with a peanut butter Kong. These dogs may have so much fun they won't want to come home.

Mom thinks I'll cry when I drop them off. She's probably right.

I tell myself that these people have experience handling all sorts of dogs, and that while King can be a handful, he's not aggressive toward people. He does well at the vet's, so I'm hoping he carries the standard to the kennel.

We're wondering if Mickey will think he's being taken back to the shelter. Even though he'll be with King, and have his own toys, will he think he's being displaced again?

Guess I will find out tomorrow.

>Fingers crossed for the other jobs -

Thanks. There's one in particular I'd like a shot at. They posted it twice, which implies they didn't find a suitable candidate the first time, which in turn implies that this is a legit posting and not a case of "we already know who we want to hire, but HR says we have to post this job so let's do it and get it over with."

Hope it goes okay, but with King and his toys, it should be fine.

Yup - I went through three years of those. Finally got on the benefit side of that by building a relationship with the director I wanted to work for - and the bureaucratic chicanery she went through to bring me on left me open-mouthed in awe. And left me contemplating the folly of all the time I spent applying for "jobs."

Sigh. Wanna couple megs of slightly-used cover letters? :-)

You've got my hopes on the one you want. Do you know the timeline on their process?

Since it's within my current company, I kept the letter simple. A couple of lines only--thanks for considering me, and pleaser keep me in mind for other openings if this doesn't work out. If I start looking outside, I will need to spiff up the cover letter.

Jobs are usually posted for two weeks, and I think this one had a week to go. Probably depends on how many resumes the HR rep receives, and how available everyone will be over the next two weeks due to Spring Break. In other words, I'm not sure, but I think I should know whether I'm being considered about the time I get back from vacation.

Hope you can put it all away while you're gone and have a great time, and come home to happy pups and good job news.
