ksmith: (gimme a break)

Lava rock does not spread like mulch (insert major league DUH here). Hence, the 20 bags I thought would be more than enough to cover both the area by the house and the birdbath garden only covered the area by the house. But, that spot is done, and it looks ok. Much neater. All the mulch sites are buried.

I am utterly wiped. Feet ache. Shoulders ache. Next Saturday, weather permitting, I will put rock down in the birdbath garden. Then King will have to content himself with dirt and grass when he gets in the mood to upchuck.

I am irrirated. This wasn't what I planned to do today, and now I'm so wiped that I doubt I'll get much writing done. I know it had to get done, but damn, I wish I could take that dog by the ears and say Yo Butthead--Lay Off The Wood, and he'd like, understand. Ok, he'd say, I'll stick to grass and limit the upchucking to once a week. Outside. Thank you, I'd say. Biscuit?

I don't believe tomorrow's Monday already...

I wonder why King's stomach is so sensitive. Have you tried him on one of the 100% meat dog foods? Have you tried feeding him a regular acidophilus culture such as yogurt or even an acidophilus supplement? My dog used to prance when I got out the pill jar. "Can I have one? Can I have one?" Then he'd crunch it down with great glee. Most acidophilus supplements taste good.

Kudos on getting a major yard project done!

It was sensitive before because of stress--he used to eat dirt, mulch, etc in a panicked effort to make his stomach feel better. That apparently burned into his brain and became a learned behavior--now he eats mulch and dirt because something tells him to. It might also be because he likes the taste.

Dogs are omnivores, so 100% meat isn't always a good dietary choice. A culture supplement is a possibility.

Yeh, I had a diet book for cooking for dogs once. It recommended feeding dogs stews with meats and veggies. But most folks don't have time to cook enough for themselves, much less their pets. When my dog was older he developed trouble digesting foods with grains in them. So I ended up cooking for him. I regretted not doing it for him from the first when his arthritis eased up and he felt years younger.
