Tall, Thin, & Tortured

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kalibex for this link.

TTTs do not fit the conventional image of what turns women on. While much has been made of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Bavarian beefcake, Dennis Quaid's washboard abs and Kevin Costner's cornfed carnality, members of the TTT fan club prefer haggard over husky, gaunt before brawn. We want guys with hipbones like cheese graters and cheeks as hollow as a morning-after promise.

The only name missing in the singers section was Peter Murphy.

The only name missing in the singers section was Peter Murphy.

This is probably because Mr Murphy is actually fairly short. ;)

Otherwise? Dead on perfect. *g*

Is he? I've seen him in concert twice, and he seems tallish for a TTT, Brit singer version. Not strapping, but not fine-boned either.

[identity profile] kristine-smith.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
found one site that says he's 6', which seems about right. Anywhere from 5'10" on up.

Interesting. Like I said, I'm guestimating based on the relative heights of the rest of the guys from Bauhaus, who I met back when they were touring as Love & Rockets. The only way Danny Ash is six foot is if he's wearing high-heeled boots, and Peter appears to be around the same height or slightly shorter. But that was damn near 20 years ago, so who knows? Maybe he had a growth spurt in his 30s. *g*

Well, David Bowie is supposedly 5'10", but he's so slight that he seems smaller. Ah well...

I've seen him play a couple of times, too. Great performer.

But yeah, he's not very tall for a guy, around 5'6"-5'8", tops. Mind you, I'm guestimating based on the fact that I've met Danny Ash several times. He's about 5'10", and Murphy's a good two-three inches shorter, going from the group photos and concert footage I've seen. But he carries himself taller, that's for damned sure.

David J, now, he's tall. I always felt like I was gonna break my neck looking up at him.

Hunted around online--they've pegged Peter at 5'10"-6', Ash at 6'1", and David J at 6'3" or 6'4".

Did Ash wear heels? Yes, I am trying to boost Peter in height, why do you ask? *g*

I saw Peter in clubs where I was only a few rows away from the stage. I'm 5'7" or so, and I sensed him taller, definitely.

*sigh* He's playing at House of Blues in June, but going into the city is such a PITA...

6'3" or 6'4" for David sounds about right, and his brother Kevin is around the same, and more solidly built as well. But there is no way on god's green acre that Daniel is 6'1", unless they're counting his hair. *g*

When I met Daniel, he was favoring a pair of battered army boots that he'd spray painted white. Never did get a serious answer out of him as to why, but he was on a real white kick on that tour.

God, I'm having serious flashbacks to my misspent youth now. I watched that particular show from backstage, sitting on top of an equipment box, and hung out with the guys after. Got to know Kevin fairly well; he'd have me read his tarot cards whenever they played in Florida.

Random things I remember: Danny falling asleep on the couch next to me, then jerking awake and asking what city we were in. David's favorite drink being screwdrivers, and how cadaverously thin he was. The intense blue of Kevin's eyes. I wasn't a groupie in the traditional sense, but I met an awful lot of bands thanks to a friend who was a concert promoter.

That sounds...rather grand.

One of my regrets is that I didn't misspend more of my youth.

[identity profile] windrose.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
It was both a grand time, and a horrible time. My mother was dying of cancer, and Tony (the promoter) used to take me with him to shows because he knew how grim things were at home. Sometimes I'd do odd jobs, like sell tickets at the door, but mostly I was there as eye candy. The bands certainly never minded, and with the notable exception of Perry Ferrell (who tried to punch me in the face when I told him to take his hand off my ass) they all behaved like perfect gentlemen.

I know it's been some time, but I'm sorry about your Mom. I know more about that path than I want to.

So Perry's a jerk. Never was a fan of his. But good to hear that everyone else behaved...likely including a few who would deny to the grave that they were well-behaved.

[identity profile] windrose.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry as well, and thank you for the sympathy.

Perry was just plain nasty. Smelled as bad as he looked and had the manners of a troll. Stiv Bators, OTOH, was an absolute sweetheart. Tesco Vee from the Meatmen was the silliest (Me: Do the skinheads realize you're making fun of them? Tesco: Nah, they have the collective IQ of a grapefruit.), and the most intelligent was ... one of the guys from New Model Army whose name escapes me at the moment. He had a beautiful Celtic-style Tree of Life tattoo on his arm, and seemed very surprised that a 19 year old girl from rural Florida would know as much Celtic mythology as I did.
