They know when you have money

In the past month, have received 1) on-signing for wip and wip+1, 2) royalty check, and 3) tax refunds. Enjoyed feeling of being able to pay off credit cards, replenish emergency fund, and set aside money for upcoming conventions.

Today, I entered my garage. Looked up to check condition of underside of roof, the status of which I've been monitoring for quite some time. Previous owner had rigged a basketball hoop to one of the boards. Hoop fell off years ago, and the board beneath, well, that's the part I've been keeping an eye on. It's been deteriorating, but there had been no leakage so I decided to bide my time.

Anyway, looked up. Saw a tiny hint of daylight. The weight of winter snows must have finally done the board in. Roof needs new shingles, too. At least it's a detached garage. No danger to the house.

Waiting for a return call from the first roofer on my list. I hope this isn't an indication of things to come because I'm taking the guys to the vet Saturday for their semi-annual check-ups.

The garage roof in question is yer basic simple V-shape, with no complications (fingers crossed) but for the rotten plywood that needs replacing. It definitely needs reshingling--the only question is whether the old shingles need to come off. I suspect they're the originals, and they crumble when handled. I really am amazed the roof hasn't leaked until now.

I have two calls out. According to the clerk at the local hardware store, Company A, for which he's worked on occasion, is top drawer. Company B...isn't. But, for a simple garage roof, B's work may suffice, in which case it would boil down to price.

I plugged the hole with some plastic and duct-tape-in-a-can (that expanding spray foam). No clue if it will hold, and we could get anywhere from 1-3" of rain today. so it will be tested. I just wish someone would call me back.
