So I'd been thinking about buying a countertop grill for the last few weeks, and finally did so today. Not a particularly expensive model, but it was a combo grill/griddle and came with a recipe DVD. I was really looking forward to trying it out--bought lamb chops and tuna steaks, and planned a grilled sandwich for today's lunch. Got the chicken and Havarti cheese ready. Cut open the roll and brushed on a little pesto. Set up the grill, plugged it in, and turned it on.

You know where this is going

Nothing. No light on the temperature dial. No heat on the grill. Not even a spark or the smell of burnt anything.

*sigh*

Guess I'll get to see how well this company's customer service department works.

Had a broiled sandwich. Tomorrow, I'll have broiled tuna steak.

What you need is a cast-iron grill pan. I got one several years ago and it's one of the most-used items in my kitchen.

I think you're right. I was originally looking for a range-top version, but was sidetracked by the counter top appliances. And I had decided to do this after having gone grocery shopping--with frozen fish in the car, I couldn't afford to dawdle. So, I jumped the gun. Act in haste...
