I had figured out how to adjust the Herman Miller chairs we had for years--a little button on the underside. These new chairs are Howarths, and they have a lever for everything. No buttons. Couldn't figure out how to work the tilt. Had a meeting in someone's office today, and saw that he had figured out how to tilt his chair. Went back to my cube and checked the underside of my chair *again*. Found a teeny manual tucked into a slot in the underside ( a smart addition), and found the Change Tilt page. Located the right lever and voila!
A few years ago, I went through a period where my upper back ached. That went away when I figured out how to drop down the chair back.
The furniture people should hold a help session after a major move. "Here's how to adjust the new keyboard tray. Here's how to adjust the new chairs." It would take a half-hour, tops. I thought I had broken a half dozen of the Herman Miller chairs (at about $500 each) until I figured out that the little tilt button slipped into the Lock position if you sat down too hard, jamming the chair into a hard upright position.
