ksmith: (gimme a break)

I fear that which is lost will not be found. I drove to work this morning and checked the one place it might have been. Nope.

What's funny is that I know where atop my desk it would have been. I found the stuff that would have been with it. But the It itself is gone. I fear that I may have accidentally trashed it.

What made matters worse was that in the course of looking for Lost Thing, I searched for a couple of Much More Important Things, and couldn't find them, either. Looked through old files in the basement. Dumped out the trash bin. Hunted through the office closet, the file cabinet. It was about this time that a headache settled in and my stomach started to hurt.

Found the MMITs. They were, oddly enough, exactly where they should have been, just tucked between other things.

I suspect Lost Thing will turn up someday, long after it is needed. It's the Cosmos' way of going "neener neener."

I lost my credentials to the Sears Tower - I need them once a month for up to a week at a time. I waited for six months, certain that I would find them as soon as I *truly* gave up hope waiting for them.

Eventually, building security said that I could no longer come in on guest passes, and I had to replace the credentials. I was certain *that* edict would make them reappear.

So far, they're still missing.

Sigh - it's a lousy feeling.

I hope your Important Thing comes home soon.

Yeah, I think we felt the same feeling.

It's already midafternoon, which is the irritating part. Instead of spending Sunday morning sipping coffee and reading the papers, or attempting to set up the wireless network, I stressed. And I wound up in the same place I was when I got up this morning. No improvement. Only a headache and shoulders gone to wood.

I am now going to make the nice dinner I had planned, and I'm going to enjoy it, dammit.

I suspect your creds and my Lost Thing are together in some documents alternate universe, laughing.

Are you sure lost thing didn't get contaminated with questionable DNA and simply dissolve in a puddle of unidentifiable goo? And, been there. having my passport, with beaucoup not-easily-replaced-visas-to-places-that-I-go-to-a-lot in it caused me to miss a flight, the next day's flight, and key meetings. ugh. especially frustrating because it was right where I actually thought I'd put it... just hidden in a layer of documents.

Is Lost thing ... replaceable at all?

Lost Thing is replaceable--life would just be easier if I had it in hand. And I wonder what happened to it, and I feel like an idiot for misplacing it. Insert your favorite self-recrimination here.

I may pick through the cleaned up files one more time, just in case. Like I said, what irks me is that I found items that I know were in the same pile. I remember the last time I had it.

Blasted thing.

Commiserations! I'm sure it's just taunting you and will turn up later when you're looking for something entirely different.

Yanno, not sure I'd mind. I'd have a ceremonial burning.
