What you do when you read the bottom of the Christmas card box and see the statement "extra postage may be required" *after* you've already mailed six of the cards.
Dammit, they're supposed to print that on the envelope.
You could take one into the lab (or use a kitchen scale) to see if they really weigh more than an ounce.
The Costco cards say that but they all (but 2) weigh less than an ounce. What tips most people over is the addition of a letter or photographs.
When I was a kid (a long time ago), you could mail holiday cards without postage. And I've been told that during this time of year, the PO lets a fair amount of overweight cards through -- in the spirit of the season.
I didn't add anything to these cards beyond single smaller-than-average sheets of paper. Most of them went through without anything added.
I noted on another list that the warning may not have been for those cards specifically. It's possible that the vendor had that warning printed on all their boxes so that they wouldn't have to worry about making sure the right (or wrong) size cards were packed into the correct boxes.
