Take the clean cream-colored sheets from the linen closet. Shake them out prior to putting them on my bed, and pause to brush off the scattered black hairs. Look at the large black dog currently resting at the foot of the bed, think of the smaller black dog resting in my office, and realize once and for all that Dyson notwithstanding, dog hair has become a permanent fixture in my life.
