Coincidence

The fact that the orthodontist who recently reinstalled my permanent retainer and my insurance agent from almost 20 years ago both have been clothes-lined by the long arm of the law. The orthodontist was arrested and charged with writing scrips for Vicodin and Xanax for fictitious patients, then picking up the meds himself. Age 37, posh North Shore practice, wife and two young children. The insurance agent was charged with pocketing premiums and refunds on cancelled policies in a variety of ways.

Learning all this made for a very strange day.

I went into one of my clients one day, down in the southern reaches of Michigan:

"Did you hear about Dr. A?" they said.

"No...?"

"His dental assistants and hygienists and front desk staff finally got sick of all the sexual harassment and took a copy of all his financial and practice data down to the police. Seems he's been filing false claims. They even said Dr. A had gotten a dental license in Illinois and was planning to bail out in the middle of the night. The police grilled the girls for hours, but now Dr. A's been arrested."

Then Dr. B buys Dr. A's practice. A couple months later, I get a call from my boss.

"Yeah, Dave, can you go down to Dr. B's? He's had his computers confiscated by the police and the hard drives are all getting sent to the State Police lab. Can you take him a new server and some new PCs so he can at least go back to taking digital x-rays?"

Dr. B was selling his drug samples, and admitted as much to one of our techs.

Now, Dr. C has bought Dr. B's practice...

sounds like a cursed practice to me

this situation here is messy. my dentist, who is the nicest guy ever, feels bad since he referred so many of his patients to the ortho. It didn't help when one of his patients called to complain that he was halfway through a set of treatments with the ortho, and wanted my dentist's help in getting his money back.
