Awakened at 7ish by a cold nose, followed by the padding of feet as their owner took off to another part of the house. Then came silence. King and silence make me nervous, so out of bed I got myself. By noon, I had taken King for a walk, dosed Mickey with meds, done two loads of laundry, and finished Ch 3 of the Gideon proposal. Day of rest. OK.

Very happy to say that I managed to revise the synopsis portion of the proposal as well, and emailed it off to [livejournal.com profile] arcaedia for her comments. The first three chapters total 82 pages--a little long for me, but I'll worry about it later--and the synopsis of the rest came in at 19 pages, which is some kind of record given that previous synopses have run anywhere from 60-80 manuscript pages. I'm not sure that I've hit all the details I need to hit with this one, but I want to get input from [livejournal.com profile] arcaedia regarding the story overall before I start picking nits. It's a new genre and everything, and I'm excited and edgy at the same time.

I am sooo glad this is done. Maybe not done done, but, well, done.

Giant sense of relief.

BTW, there were lovely stacks of ENDGAME in the dealer's room at WFC, where I picked up my copy.

Ohhh...thanks!

I hope the lovely stacks shrunk over the course of the con.

I hate this part. The joy of writing the story, the fun of thinking up new things, the thrill of the release date and the nice review, rendered to dust by the chill reality of the ledger.

Oh yes, stack was shrinking nicely, and when I was in line waiting to pay at Larry Smith's table, I was not the only one clutching a copy :-)

The reality of the sales numbers is always an interesting time, and I'm one of those for whom it does more harm than good. Some authors at WFC confessed to checking their Amazon rankings several times a day (!) which seems a tad OCD. I only check them if I happen to be on the site for some other reason, and while I get the Bookscan numbers, I file them for examination at periodic intervals, rather than obsessing over them every week.

Ah, well...

I check them regularly even though I know they don't mean much. I also check the B&N numbers, but they tend to depress me even more because it's my understanding that they include both online and in-store sales. I don't know if that's indeed the case.

It's when you're regularly calling the Ingram stock status hotline to check the sales that you've really gone over the edge.
