In a story in this morning's Sun-Times about the deaths of WGN radio personality Bob Collins and two other people in a crash, it was mentioned that the US District judge involved in a ruling in the case was bothered because Waukegan Airport lacked a "TARDIS" electronic air control system.

Terminal Automated Radar Display and Information System.

I admit the name took me aback.

Y'know, when I was in the "control tower" section of the new Dulles Air & Space Museum--the one where they have displays of how the air traffic controllers work--I heard somebody mention a TARDIS air control system and thought they were joking . . .

The thing is, all I can think of are scenarios like:

Controller 1: Bravo-seven, pull up, pull up!

Controller 2: It's ok--I just moved him.

Controller 1: (swallowing hard) Where? Exactly?

Controller 2: A couple minutes into the future...give or take a couple...centuries.

Well, On the outside, this particular TARDIS appears to be an innocuous box or two full of electronics and wiring, with various connections to other devices. On the inside, it's the entirety of the (in this case) Chicago area, as seen from many vantage points at once.
