Just another Monday

The Cubs scored three runs in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Reds 7-6 and retain their 1-game lead over the Brewers.

I tried to write as this tomfoolery was taking place. Dialogue. Two-finger typing. A word here, a word there. Then a big wodge of world-building backstory flooped into backbrain. Some of it hit the page, but the rest needs reworking/tweaking/blasted research. There's no way I will be able to do very much if I want to finish the proposal by the end of the month. I will likely do Just Enough, write what I want, and make everything fit together if someone decides to pay for the rest.

Eeep, yourself.

Could I just have a solid block of time to work some of these things out? And now I go into panic mode, because there was something....just out of reach...to write down....

EEK!

I was lucky enough to work on an editing pass (no new material, per se) while the Indians and Tigers went into extra innings last night.

What I'd really like to see is an Indians-Cubs series.

Cubs-Red Sox was the dream for a while. Then the Sox won their title.

Cubs-Indians would be good. But the AL always seems to load their line-ups with these monster hitters, and I don't know if the lack of the DH would be enough to even things out.

A good observation, but I think pitching is the key. As cliche as it seems, it's true. Indians wouldn't be where they are right now if it wasn't for the 1-2-3 punch of Sabathia, Carmona and Byrd coupled with Perez, Betancourt and Borowski in the bullpen. Cubs are pretty close with Zambrano, Lilly and Marquis and then Howry, Ohman and Dempster. Would make for a good duel.

Heh

Not exactly a name to strike fear in a batter, though he had a good year in '03 with the Cubs. Timing is everything.

Yet another player who declined to come into his own until he left the team.

In other news, Mark Cuban was apparently at the game last night. He watched from the bleachers. If he is able to buy the Cubs...it would definitely liven things up a bit.

I respect his winning attitude. One of the things that sometimes drives me crazy about the Indians is the ownership isn't willing to spend money year in and year out to contend. Rebuilding sucks. So I can understand and appreciate owners like Cuban and Steinbrenner.

Channelling Tom Hanks...

Are you writing? There's no writing in Baseball!

(mind you, paying bills trumps all).

There wasn't much writing. Hunting. Pecking. Mumbling. Some cheering, at the end.

Grumbling here. Can't even pretend to write during a game. Go Cubs!
